Three New London families have farmed 100-150 years

Three local farming families were honored for their years of agricultural business at the 2016 Wisconsin State Fair.

Hillshire Farm recognized 107 Century Farm families and 42 Sesquicentennial Farm families in August. Among the local farms:

• Roger Knapp (Knapp Tree Farm), New London – Century Farm.

• Carol and Wayne Morack, New London – Century Farm.

• Diane and Dennis Gorges, New London – Sesquicentennial Farm.

The Sesquicentennial Farm Awards Program began in 1998 as part of the state’s sesquicentennial celebration. The program honors families who have had continuous ownership of their Wisconsin farm or home for 150 years or more.

The Century Farm Awards Program began in 1948 as part of Wisconsin’s Centennial Celebration, a 23-day Wisconsin State Fair. The program honors families who have had continuous ownership of their Wisconsin farm or home for 100 years or more.

Hillshire Farm of New London has sponsored both programs for decades.
