Gunderson, Geneva

gunderson-geneva-2016Geneva J. Gunderson, age 89, of Clintonville passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Care Partners Assisted Living, Clintonville.

The former Geneva Jean Rose was born on October 6, 1927 in the Town of Elton, Langlade County, WI to Orville and Opal (Clay) Rose. She was raised in the Laona area and attended school in Hollister, Antigo, and Laona where she graduated from high school. Geneva met her husband, Garfield “Gary” Gunderson, while in Milwaukee and the couple was united in marriage on June 21, 1954 in Iron Mountain, MI. After marriage they settled in the Town of Matteson, Waupaca County, where they spent 33 years together until Garfield’s passing on April 26, 1988. She did work for many years as a cleaning lady at the Clintonville Motel. Geneva is a former member of Christus Lutheran Church and the VFW Post 664 Ladies Auxiliary, both of Clintonville. She liked keeping up to date with family happenings, going out to eat whenever possible, and creating beautiful embroidery projects. Geneva always enjoyed celebrating her birthday each year and winning on the slot machines at the casino. Her other interests included growing gorgeous flowers and vegetables in her garden. She will be remembered most for her wonderful sense of humor and as a loving mother and a proud grandmother.

Survivors include six daughters: Linda (Mike) White of Bella Vista, AR; Diane (Wayne) Prey of Neenah, Donna (Allan) Meyer of Wisconsin Rapids, Deborah (Tom) Mauel of Clintonville, Denise Gunderson of Clintonville, and Lisa (Mark) Stuhr of Marion. There are 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Geneva is preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Opal Rose; her husband, Garfield; a son, Duane Chapman; one brother, Jerome Rose; and two sisters, Josephine Smith and Geraldine McDade.

A visitation will be on Thursday, October 27th at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, from 4:00 p.m. until time of service. Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Crocker officiating and a luncheon will follow all at the funeral home. The family will gather on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home until 9:45 a.m. when the procession leaves for the cemetery. A graveside prayer will be at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Town of Matteson.

The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff at Care Partners Assisted Living of Clintonville and Compassus Hospice of Green Bay for the compassionate and exceptional care given to mom.
