President Barack Obama endorsed Waupaca Mayor Brian Smith in his race for Wisconsin’s 14th Senate District.
Smith is among a select group of state legislative candidates from around the country to be endorsed by Obama.
The 14th Senate District encompasses 10 counties in central Wisconsin from Waupaca in the north through parts of Columbia, Dane and Dodge in the south.
“Standing up for veterans and working families has always been my top priority,” said Smith. “Barack Obama understands how important these issues are and I’m incredibly proud to have his support as we continue to fight for better heath care, stronger schools and safer communities. While our nation continues to be deeply divided, I’ve proven that I can work across the aisle with Democrats, Republicans and independents to get things done.”
Smith is challenging incumbent state Sen. Luther Olsen in Tuesday’s election.
