I-S prepares to implement referendum nod

By Jane Myhra

“The results from the referendum speak volumes about the support in our community for our school district and the students,” said Iola-Scandinavia District Administrator David Dyb.

The I-S School Board will now decide how the referendum money approved Tuesday will be spent.

“The next steps include prioritizing our capital projects and finalizing a timeline for completion,” Dyb said. “I would anticipate some projects could begin late spring or early summer. We will manage things to not disrupt classes. Beyond that, we will begin work on the 2017-18 preliminary budget.”

With all municipalities in the district now tallied, question 1, seeking approval for $2 million in debt, passed with a vote of 1,889 in favor and 716 against.

Question 2, seeking approval to exceed revenue caps for five years, the vote was 1,587 yes and 978 no.
