Grant, Gary C.

grant-garyGary C. Grant, age 76, of Waupaca, WI passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Theda-Care Regional Medical Center-Appleton.

Gary was born in Waupaca on February 7, 1940, the son of the late Everett and Verna (Guyant) Grant, graduated from Waupaca High School in 1958 then enlisted in the US Navy. He served on the aircraft carrier Coral Sea before being discharged in 1962. On November 3, 1962, he married Patricia G. Perri in San Pedro, CA, after they met on a blind date arranged by close friends. His first job after the Navy was at Harvey Aluminum Co. in California. He later moved on to work for Garrett AiResearch before then joining American Airlines in Los Angeles as an aeronautical electrician. Due to strikes at the airline, he enlisted in the California National Guard before going to work at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard as an electrician. Gary returned to Wisconsin in 1977 to help his brother Jim on the family farm. From there, he went to work at the Waupaca Foundry as an electrician where he worked for 24 years until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, bowling with his son, playing pool with the guys, exercising at the fitness center, and sharing his time and talents with his church. Gary was a gifted carpenter and spent much of his free time woodworking in his shop. Gary’s true passion was his family. Nothing made him more proud than the life he and his wife built together, the three children they raised or the legacy of his grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Parfreyville United Methodist Church.

Gary is survived by his wife, Patricia Grant, Waupaca; his children: Angela (Gary) Rowland, Waupaca; Susan (Douglas) Jirik, Wild Rose and Michael (Jennifer) Grant, Waupaca; his six grandchildren: Joshua and Jason Rowland, Amanda and Emily Jirik and Aavery and Alyssa Grant; his brother, James (Mary) Grant, Almond and his sister, Janet Grant, Tacoma, WA. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Verna Grant and his sister, Louise (Conway) Sloniker.

The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, December 3 at 12 noon at the Parfreyville United Methodist Church with Reverend Eric Taylor and Brenda Hewitt, officiating. Burial will be on Sunday, December 4 at 1 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery, Town of Belmont, Wisconsin. Visitation will be on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are greatly appreciated to the Parfreyville United Methodist Church. Holly Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
