Gast, Randy

After celebrating 60 years with relatives and friends, Randy Gast passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home, with family gathered near him.

He was born on February 19, 1957 at Community Hospital in New London, the son of Eldrew and Wilma (Berndt) Gast. He was baptized on March 5, 1957, and later confirmed on April 4, 1971 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dale. In 1977, Randy graduated from Winneconne High School. He was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield, where he served as an usher, and was a member of the property committee. Randy farmed with his dad and brother, Bruce before selling the family farm. He then worked at Hillshire, Larsen Co-op, Oshkosh Lumber, and was then employed at Oshkosh Truck before illness forced him to retire. He loved camping, hunting, snowmobiling, fishing and bowling. He was a member of the Medina/Dale/ Readfield Lions Club.

Randy is survived by his mother, Wilma; a brother, Bruce (Lana); a sister, Candace (Lee) Kohler; special friend, Gladys Fleck; nieces and nephews: Kevin (Lynn Ann), Brian, Keith (Colleen), Tammy (Mike), Christopher, Anna (Joe), Bobbie (Bill), Ben (Carley) and Tim. He was very proud of his great-nephews and nieces, Trace, Elijah, Caleb, Skylar, Melanie, Sydney, Issac, Claire, Cayden, Henry, Blake, Taylor, Reed, Emilie, Mattie, Alyssa, Reese, Reagan and Bryce. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Eldrew.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, N985 County Rd. W, Readfield. Rev. Peter Kesting will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday, at the church, from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Dale Union Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. The Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Randys’ family would like to thank the many friends, relatives, neighbors and Zion church members for making his journey to God as comfortable as possible. Also thank you to St. Elizabeth Cancer Center, floor 4000 on Fremont St., and Affinity Hospice for all of their wonderful care. And a big thank you to the Medina/Dale/Readfield Lions Club for all of they did for not only Randy, but his whole family during this time.
