Wayne C. Klein, II, age 93, of Waupaca, WI passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Theda Care Medical Center-Waupaca.
Wayne was born in Superior, WI on July 11, 1923, the son of the late Wayne and Helen (Johnson) Klein Sr. Wayne’s military career spanned 43 years in the US Army retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He proudly served in Europe during WW II in the 66th (Panther) Division, US Army and remained active with the veterans that he served with. He married Annette Mercier, a French Army translator he met while they were on duty in Vienna, Austria after the war ended and had five children. On March 3, 1970, Wayne married Phyllis Rice in Lyme Regis, England. He was an active member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waupaca.
He is survived by his wife: Phyllis Klein, Waupaca; his children: Mark (Susie) Klein, Fitchburg; Troy Klein, Fitchburg; Christopher (Linda) Klein, Waupaca; David Klein (special friend-Debbie), Germantown and Yvette Egan (special friend-John), Madison; his seven grandchildren: Steven (Becky) Klein, Maria Mandt (Bruce), Heidi Klein (Alex), Heather Klein (Josh), Kelly Huibregtse (Patrick), Katie Egan (Robert Goodenough), Kari Steck (Cullen)and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Martha Anderson, St. Paul, MN and Mary Martin, Madison, WI. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents. Wayne loved plants, flowers and animals, and especially his companion dog “Queen Mary.”
The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waupaca with Reverend Paul Bowe, officiating. Military honors will follow the funeral service at the church and burial will be at a later date at the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King, WI. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements. The family requests that memorials be made to ThedaCare at Home Hospice.
