By Greg Seubert

Eight area high school seniors will lace up their basketball shoes one last time.

Players from Waupaca, Iola-Scandinavia, Wild Rose, Almond-Bancroft, Clintonville, New London and Hortonville will compete in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association’s all-star games in June in Wisconsin Dells.

Five girls’ games are scheduled for Friday, June 16, at JustAgame Fieldhouse, while five boys’ games will be held Saturday, June 17.

Waupaca’s Victoria Nowak will join New London’s Leah Porath on the girls’ Division 2 North squad; Iola-Scandinavia’s Kenny Holz and Leighten Fischer will suit up for the boys’ and girls’ Division 4 North teams, respectively; Wild Rose’s Alexa Gravunder is on the girls’ Division 5 North team; Almond-Bancroft’s Dylan Bunders has been named to the boys’ Division 5 North team; Clintonville’s Tyler Petermann is on the boys’ Division 3 North team; and Hortonville’s Charlie Schabo is on the boys’ Division 2 North team.

Local coaches selected include New London’s Kurt Schommer and Hortonville’s Matt Hintz for the boys’ Division 3 and 2 North teams, respectively.

Players selected for the all-star games collect pledges for the MACC Fund. Last year’s game raised $126,000 for Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer Inc. and the WBCA has contributed $2.2 million since 1978.
