School lockouts in Weyauwega

Arrests made on Main Street

Shortly before 10:55 a.m. Thursday, March 30, all schools in Weyauwega initiated lockouts.

Weyauwega police had contacted both public and private schools and requested precautionary lockout procedures.

At 11:03 a.m., Weyauwega police, Waupaca County sheriff’s deputies and Waupaca County tactical officers executed a search warrant in the 200 block of East Main Street.

As a result of the warrant, a man and woman were arrested. Both were transported to the Waupaca County Jail pending drug-related charges.

At approximately 11:16 a.m. Thursday, Weyauwega officers assisted Waupaca County deputies with an ongoing investigation in the 100 block of West Alfred Street.

At 11:25 a.m., Weyauwega police advised the schools they could lift the lockouts.

During the precautionary lockout, all regular school activities continued with no foot traffic allowed in or out of exterior doors, according to Weyauwega-Fremont District Administrator Scott Bleck.

“There was no direct threat to our school district,” Bleck said. “It is our practice, if an active police situation within our school’s locality occurs that a precautionary school lockout is recognized.”

Weyauwega Police Sgt. Brandon J. Leschke said the lockouts were requested in an effort to further ensure community safety.
