W-F opens with two wins

Indians top Wild Rose, New London

It didn’t take long for the Weyauwega-Fremont baseball team to start a winning streak.

The Indians took a 2-0 record into their Central Wisconsin 8 Conference opener April 4 against Pacelli after knocking off Wild Rose and New London.

W-F handed Wild Rose a 10-6 defeat March 31 and opened the season March 28 with a 5-4 comeback win over New London.

A seven-run third inning erased a 1-0 deficit after the Wildcats scored in the bottom of the second inning.

Wild Rose came back with four runs in the bottom of the third to cut the Indians’ lead to 7-5, but W-F added to its lead with two runs in the fourth and one in the seventh.

The Wildcats came up with a run in the fourth to make it 9-6, but couldn’t get any closer.

Wild Rose outhit the Indians 7-5, but committed seven errors and walked 11 batters.

Louis Knecht scored twice and drove in a pair of runs for the Indians, while Logan Bosquez and Brandon Scheer had two hits. Bosquez also scored twice and Scheer added a triple.

Cole Hudziak picked up the win and Travis Jansen took the loss.

Hudziak’s two-out, two-run double in the top of the sixth inning drove in the tying and go-ahead runs over the Bulldogs.

The Indians opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, but the Bulldogs took the lead with a pair of runs in the third. W-F regained the lead with two runs in the fifth, but New London answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-3 lead.

The Indians outhit the Bulldogs 6-3. Hudziak finished with three RBIs, while Kyle Wolf drove in two of New London’s runs.

W-F will host Reedsville Thursday, April 6, before traveling to Winneconne Friday, April 7, and hosting Shiocton Monday, April 10. All three games will get underway at 4:30 p.m.
