Library to remain open

Construction project starts Aug. 14

By Mehta Hess

The front entrance ramp and stairs of the New London Public Library and Museum will be under construction starting Monday, Aug. 14.

Construction is expected to last through September and could go into October. The project will create a new, safer ramp and stairs in place of the crumbling structure now in place.

During construction, the library entrance will be located off the parking lot at the southeast corner of the building.

Additionally, handicap and stroller access will be available at the north end of the library on the lower level.

A doorbell with a camera and microphone/speaker will be installed at the door off of Spring Street, below the bay window. Anyone wishing to use the accessible entrance can ring the doorbell and staff will come open the door. A ramp will be installed for access.

The library also encourages people to call the library. Librarians can check out items and deliver them to the parking lot for patrons.

The library also offers Books on Wheels for patrons living in senior housing developments, assisted living and nursing homes. Materials, including books, audio books and other items are specially selected based on reader preferences and delivered once a month by a library volunteer.

For more information about delivery to the parking lot or Books on Wheels, call the library at 920-982-8519.
