Driver busted for 5th OWI

A trooper became suspicious when he saw all the empty beer cans.

Andrew C. Mundt, 35, Weyauwega, is charged with a fifth offense of operating while intoxicated.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, June 29, Wisconsin State Trooper Mitchell Butterbrodt was on State Highway 54 near Northport when he saw a vehicle with apparent equipment violations. He made a traffic stop.

As he spoke with the driver, identified as Mundt, Butterbrodt notice numerous empty beer cans in the car.

After Mundt’s less than satisfactory performance during the field sobriety tests, a preliminary breath test indicated he had a .10 blood-alcohol content, according to the criminal complaint.

Due to his prior drunken driving convictions, Mundt has a legal limit of .02 BAC.

Judge Raymond Huber ordered a $5,000 cash bond as a condition of Mundt’s release. He remains in custody as of July 14.
