Lester L. Meyers, age 89, New London, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at his residence.
He was born in Shawano on June 14, 1928, son of the late Emil and Martha (Mazemke) Meyers. Lester graduated from New London Washington High School in 1947. He worked at Your Dairy and then served in the US Army for three years stationed in Germany, 1951-1953. After his service he worked as a deputy sheriff for 30 years with Outagamie County, 1965-1994. On June 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shirley Roman at Sacred Heart Church, Manawa. Lester enjoyed water skiing in his younger years, attending his grandchildren’s hockey games, and all sports including the Brewers, Badgers and Packers. Lester also enjoyed gardening and always had a large garden until his health didn’t permit him to.
Lester is survived by his wife Shirley; children: Pam Meyers, Waupaca; Jay Meyers, Shelly Meyers, and Jeff Meyers all of Appleton; grandchildren Drake Hiddemen, Platteville and Kylie Hiddemen, Waupaca; sister, Donna Buelow, New London and sister-in-laws, Patty Edminster, New London and Betty Roman, Waupaca. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Oscar (Joyce) Meyers, 2 sisters, Margaret (Ray) Krueger and Esther Babcock; brother in-laws, Jerry Roman, Jim Edminster, John Roman, sister in-law, Jean (Dr. Paul) Kircher, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Lester will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London with Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating. Burial will be in the Most Precious Blood Catholic Cemetery, New London. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.
