Witnesses sought in New London crash

The New London Police Department is looking for witnesses to a fatal crash that occurred in September.

The crash happened on the U.S. Highway 45 bypass near State Highway 54 at 6:10 p.m. on Sept. 28. NLPD and the Wisconsin State Patrol believe more people may have witnessed the crash.

Anyone who saw the accident or has information should call NLPD at 920-982-8505.

Shirley Duwe, 61, of Marion died from her injuries on Oct. 12 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, according to her obituary.

She was driving the vehicle that was struck head-on by 40-year-old Benjamin J. Sager of Marquette, Michigan, according to the crash report.

The report states Sager was traveling southbound on U.S. 45 when he attempted to pass another vehicle thinking the highway was four lanes, the report states.

Duwe swerved right to try and avoid Sager’s vehicle but could not due to a guard rail, according to the crash report. One of her back tires ended up hanging over the guard rail of the overpass.

Duwe was airlifted to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center. Her husband and passenger, 62-year-old Brian Duwe, was taken to ThedaCare Medical Center-New London with minor injuries.
