An autopsy will be performed Monday, Oct. 23, on the body of a person found dead in a burning vehicle in New London.
The fire occurred in the area of Henry Street east of North Shawano Street on Saturday, Oct. 21. New London Fire Department and New London Police Department were notified of the fire at 9:43 a.m.
The SUV was fully engulfed when officers responded. In using an extinguisher to attempt to put out the fire, officers noticed the individual inside.
The person in the vehicle has not been identified.
The reason for the fire was not released as the situation continues to be investigated. The state fire marshal is investigating.
New London Police Capt. Chris Gregory stated in a news release the incident appears to not be suspicious and the public is not in any danger.
