Wayne R. Otto, 86, of Middleton, Wis. died at home on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.
Wayne was born in the village of Fremont on October 22, 1931. He graduated from Weyauwega high school in 1949 and from UW River Falls in 1953. He volunteered for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, served for two years (1953-55), and then taught high school English in New Richmond and Brillion for three years before completing masters and PhD degrees at UW Madison. He held faculty positions at both the University of Oregon and the University of Georgia before returning to Wisconsin in 1965. He retired from UW Madison in 1995.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Diane Hammer; daughter Eleni Otto (Greg Arnold); brother Roger Otto (Joan); nephews Tim and Luke Otto, and former wife Shirley Bergen.
