Grobe, Raymond W.

Raymond W. Grobe, age 90, Weyauwega, passed away  on January 6, 2018 at Theda Care Hospital, Appleton, after a short illness.

Raymond was born August 4, 1927 in Wauwatosa, son of the late Henry and Martha (Dunkle) Grobe. Raymond grew up in Big Bend on a large vegetable farm with a few milking cows. He enjoyed his career as a dairy farmer, starting out in Big Bend, forming a partnership with his sister, Florence, and his brother-in-law, Stanley Rachwal, milking 50, then in 1971, moving to Weyauwega on a larger farm with a milking parlor, and increasing the milk cows 100 plus, while also raising heifers. Raymond was awarded the Achievement Award, Waupaca County, 1975 Progressive Farmer Award was given to the Rachwal & Grobe Farm. Raymond worked very hard his whole life. Raymond was also a Renk Seed Salesman for 35 years, giving him the opportunity to travel to Hawaii for a convention and a vacation. When Raymond retired from farming in the early 90s, he loved to travel west of the Mississippi to our National Parks, in his motor home, including a trip to Alaska. Raymond enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, reading; mainly non-fiction books, history and geography of the U.S. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, gardening, watching and caring for birds and also caring for stray cats who he gave a home to. Raymond was an early riser and did his exercises and walked daily which helped him be in great shape into his late 80s. He had many great conversations with his neighbors on the road while walking.

Raymond is survived by his sister, Jeannette Katzman, and nephews, Jim and Jerry Katzman of Elkhorn WI; nieces: Rebecca (Walter) Wiedrich, Iron River, MI; Robereta “Robbie” Rachwal, New London; nephews: Steven, Stewart and Steffan Rachwal of Weyauwega, and Sterling Rachwal of Green Bay; two great-nieces: Bobbie Jo Trambauer (special friend, Bob Jarchow) and Rachel (Steve) Mckeever, both New London, and one great-great-niece, Kayla Trambauer of Waupaca.
