From Iola to Spain

Tap named to international soccer team

By Holly Neumann

After several years of playing soccer, Iola’s Alyssa Tap is ready to take her game to the next level.

Tap, the daughter of Dan and Ann Tap, has been selected to participate with the Wisconsin International Soccer team and will travel this summer to San Sebastian, Spain, for the 27th annual Donosti Cup, an international tournament that draws more than 350 teams from around the world.

“The team will play in the tournament and also participate in a soccer camp,” she said. “On off days, we will be traveling and sight-seeing in Spain and France.”

Tap, an eighth-grader at Iola-Scandinavia schools, has been playing soccer for eight years.

“I started in rec league and am now playing on a state team level,” she said. “I play a sweeper on the defense. I like the thrill of not allowing shots and working as a team.”

Tap tried out for the Wisconsin International Team in April 2017.

“I am always using opportunities that come my way,” she said. “I wish is to play in college someday.”

During her 10-day trip from June 29 through July 8, Tap and her team will tour the area around San Sebastian; visit the city of Hondarribia, Spain, as well as travel to France.

Tap and her teammates are required to raise $2,000 for their travel expenses.

“I will be selling script cards,” she said. “These are cards from national businesses that return a percentage back to the player. An example of the businesses would be Buffalo Wild Wings, Kwik Trip, Subway, Panera Bread and Walmart. You can contact me through Facebook – Alyssa WIS soccer – if interested in buying cards.”
