Fire in Iola

Family loses shed Sunday

The Iola and Rural Fire Department (IFD) were called to a fire at 4 a.m. Sunday, March 25.

The fire occurred at E721 County Trunk MM in the town of Iola.

“It came in as a shed fire with flames 20 feet in the air, with other buildings next to it,” said Fire Chief Jim Aanstad. “Upon our arrival the building was fully engulfed with flames.”

Owner Matt Honken said the shed was used as a deer shack, apple cider making house and storage.

“There were two other building really close by,” Honken said. “And they were able to save them. I commend them all for a job well done.”

Damage to the other building was contained to heat damage from the fire.

IFD was assisted by Amherst, Rosholt, Ogdensburg/St. Lawrence, Scandinavia and Manawa fire departments

The fire was under control at 5:12 a.m.
