W-F girls win track regional

Manawa’s Bessette wins 3 events

The Weyauwega-Fremont track team picked the perfect time to have a big day.

The girls and boys placed first and second, respectively, May 21 at a WIAA Division 3 track regional in Appleton and qualified several athletes for the Marathon Sectional, set for Thursday, May 24.

Manawa, Iola-Scandinavia and Waupaca are also sending several athletes to their respective sectional meets.

Athletes need a top-four finish to advance to sectional competition.

Division 3
St. Mary Catholic Regional
W-F and Manawa headed to the St. Mary Catholic Regional, held at Xavier High School.

Firsts for the W-F girls went to Katie Bleck (100-meter hurdles and pole vault); and the 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams.

Seconds went to Anna Bubolz and Kaitlyn Bubolz (long jump); Joan Radtke (pole vault); Morgan Monty (400-meter dash); and the 3,200-meter relay team.

Thirds went to Josie Kicherer (100- and 300-meter hurdles); Allison Halat (3,200-meter run); Bleck (discus); Natalie Schneider (triple jump); and Hannah Timm (800-meter run).

Fourths went to Radtke (high jump); Katelyn Loehrke (shot put); Haley Dearth (100-meter dash); Saylor Alberts (3,200-meter run); and Halat (1,600-meter run).

Firsts for the W-F boys went to Justin Kempf (pole vault); and Patrick Long (3,200-meter run).

Seconds went to Kyle Loehrke (discus); Exander Fletcher (pole vault) and Long (1,600-meter run), while the 400-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter relay teams placed third.

Laynie Bessette won three girls’ events for Manawa – long jump, triple jump and 300-meter hurdles – to help the Wolves place third.

Other firsts for Manawa’s girls went to Aspen Linjer (100-meter dash); and Sami Struzynski (discus).

Linjer placed second in the 200-meter dash; the 1,600-meter relay team placed third; and fourths went to Carlene Beyer (800-meter run) and the 800-meter relay team.

Bo Koehn won the boys’ 100-meter dash and long jump to help the Manawa boys place fourth.

Seconds went to Brett Zielke (triple jump); Zach Teuscher (100-meter dash); and the 800-meter relay team.

Thirds went to Ethan Michalowski (triple jump); Cayleb Zander (400-meter dash); and Brady Buch (high jump).

Fourths went to Buch (100-meter hurdles); Kyle Kons (300-meter hurdles); and the 1,600-meter relay team.

Rosholt Regional
Several Iola-Scandinavia individuals and relay teams qualified for the Marathon Sectional based on their finishes in Rosholt May 21.

The girls placed fourth, while the boys were fifth.
Erika Kisting won the girls’ 1,600-meter run and placed second in the 800- and 3,200-meter runs; Payton Wester placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump; Jada Beacom placed second in the 1,600-meter run; and the 400-meter relay team placed second.

Will Cady and Joe Makovec won the boys’ triple jump and 3,200-meter run, respectively.

Cady also placed second in the long jump, while Makovec placed third in the 1,600-meter run. The 400-meter relay team placed third, the 800-meter relay team finished fourth and Jack Kraemer placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Division 2
Wautoma Regional
Avrey Simonson qualified for the Freedom Sectional, set for May 24, by placing second in the girls’ 200-meter dash and third in the triple jump May 21 at the Wautoma Regional.

The Waupaca girls placed eighth, while the boys were fifth.

Terry Schmidt (200-meter dash), Forrest Ziebell (3,200-meter run) and the 3,200-meter relay team placed third for the Waupaca boys, while Camryn Borland (400-meter dash) and the 1,600-meter relay team placed fourth.

• Note: The boys’ and girls’ pole vault event was rescheduled for Wednesday, May 22.

Athletes in division 2 and 3 need to place in the top four at their respective sectionals to qualify for the WIAA State Track & Field Championships, set for Friday and Saturday, June 1-2, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
