Loughrin, Barbara G. (Fischer)

Barbara G. (Fischer) Loughrin, age 83, New London, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 2, 2018.

Barb was born on February 10, 1935, daughter of the late Arthur and Regina (Herres) Fischer in New London. On November 6, 1954, she was united in marriage to the late Michael Loughrin and they raised a family on their farm in the Town of Lebanon, where she lived until returning to New London in retirement along the Wolf River. Barb was a proud farm wife and champion for her children as they grew. She enjoyed dressing up for occasions and developed the reputation as the family “fashionista.” She enjoyed a social life, especially engaging in Irish celebrations and was named the Irish Rose for festivities in 1995. Barb loved spending time with family, playing Uno, going out to her favorite restaurant (The Family Restaurant), gambling, and decorating her home with flowers and watermelon themed decorations.

Barb is survived by her four daughters: Peggy (Paul) Freiburger, Fond du Lac; Patty (Jim) DeGoey, New London; Debbie (Pete) Soto, New London; Lori (Todd) Barrington, New London; five sons: Michael Jr. “Pup” Loughrin, New London; Terry (Debbie) Loughrin, Bluegrass, Iowa; Jerry (Cindy) Loughrin, Manawa; Dave (Corinna) Loughrin, Manawa, and Matt (Sue) Loughrin, Manawa. She is further survived by a brother, Richard (Maryette) Fischer, Wild Rose and three sisters, Janet Griffith, Stevens Point; Sandra Clark, Iola; Diane (Pat) Murphy, New London; 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Michael Sr., son Peter Loughrin, grandson Shawn Loughrin, a sister Kay Sommer and a brother Pat Fischer.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Barb will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lebanon with Fr. John Kleinschmidt officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
