Identity theft charged

Former McDonald’s clerk accused of stealing debit cards

Hascoat

Jean-Paul Jay Hascoat, 30, is charged with four felony counts of identity theft and four misdemeanor counts of theft by credit card.

On May 19, a 17-year-old girl told New London police she had used her Community First Credit Union debit card to purchase a burger at the New London McDonald’s drive-thru three days earlier.

She later realized the clerk had not returned her debit card.

Her card was used one time to make an $8.92 purchase at the New London Kwik Trip.

When she informed her father, he advised her to cancel the card and inform the police.

The girl was able to identify the clerk only as “Jay.”

On May 22, another New London resident spoke to police about using his Community First debit card at the McDonald’s drive-thru on May 20.

When the clerk returned the card, the man did not notice it belonged to somebody else – the 17-year-old girl.

The man’s card was used on May 21 at Kwik Trip and Walmart, in New London. Someone attempted to use it at the Shell Station, in Clintonville.

On May 28, a third person reported he had used his credit union debit card at the McDonald’s drive-thru on May 24.

He did not realize the clerk had given him another person’s card until four days later when it was declined.

A fourth person also reported having his card switched after using the McDonald’s drive-thru.

With the aid of McDonald’s management, New London police were able to identify the restaurant worker whom they believe stole the cards.

They arrested Hascoat on June 11 as he was walking south on North Shawano Street in his McDonald’s uniform.
