Meth bust follows traffic stop

Driver out on bond, passenger just out of prison

A man with three open misdemeanor cases now faces a felony.

Zachery C. Bentancur, 28, Waupaca, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor bail jumping.

Bentancur’s passenger, Jeremy J. Roe, 45, Weyauwega, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

On June 20, Waupaca County Deputy Curtis Much stopped a vehicle on State Highway 54 in Royalton for an inoperative license plate lamp and defective exhaust.

As he approached the vehicle, Much noticed the driver, identified as Bentancur, and the front seat passenger, Jeremy Roe, 45, were making furtive movements that caused the deputy to suspect they were hiding something.

Deputy James Santiago arrived at the scene with his K-9 partner Cuda.

Cuda sniffed the outside of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of a controlled substance inside.

Deputies reported finding two syringes with crystal residue in the center console and prep pads on the driver’s floorboard. One of the pads had been used. More paraphernalia was found in the trunk.

Bentancur was taken into custody and later released on a $500 cash bond.

At the time of his arrest on June 20, Bentancur was out on a $1,000 signature bond.

On June 14, Bentancur was charged with disorderly conduct as an act of domestic abuse and misdemeanor bail jumping.

On Jan. 5, he was charged with disorderly conduct and misdemeanor bail jumping and released on a $1,000 signature bond with the condition he have no contact with Kwik Trip. He is scheduled for a jury trial on Sept. 24 for these charges.

On Nov. 22, 2017, Bentancur was charged with disorderly conduct as an act of domestic abuse and released on a $500 signature bond with the condition that he have no contact with the alleged victim.

While searching Bentancur’s vehicle on June 20, deputies also found a black backpack that belonged to Roe, according to the criminal complaint. Inside the backpack were two syringes, a suspected pot pipe and a gem bag, which commonly used for distributing illegal drugs.

At the time of his most recent arrest, Roe had been in state prison since Aug. 26, 2014.

Over a 10-month period ending in May 2014, prosecutors filed eight separate felony cases against Roe.

He was convicted of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a switchblade knife, carrying a concealed weapon, a seventh OWI, operating after revocation, burglary of a cargo truck, burglary of a dwelling and multiple counts of bail jumping.

He was released from prison on March 15. He is currently in county jail on an extended supervision hold.
