Piotter named Fairest of Fair

She will promote Waupaca County Fair

Leah Piotter, 19, was selected as the 2018 Waupaca County Fairest of the Fair on Sunday, June 24.

Five contestants participated in the competition that took place at the Manawa Masonic Center.

The Waupaca County Fairest of the Fair serves as the official ambassador of the Waupaca County Fair, representing and promoting the fair at local events throughout the year.

The Waupaca County Fairest of the Fair also makes daily appearances during the week of the fair.

Piotter is the daughter and step-daughter of Tammy and Randy Tesch and formally showed dairy at the Waupaca County Fair as an FFA member.

She will be a sophomore at UW-River Falls this fall where she is pursuing a degree in dairy science. She is active in the college’s Block and Bridle Club and Dairy Club and is a member of the Waupaca FFA alumni.

She works at both Brooks Farm and Mo’s Hotdog Stand in Waupaca.

“The Fairest of the Fair has a large role in getting the community excited about the fair,” Piotter said. “She appears at parades, on the radio and at libraries building excitement for the fair while being a role model for younger generations. It’s important that she can relate to others and I know I can do that.”

The selection process included an individual interview, group interview and a variety of on-stage questions.

Other contestants were Emily Bauer of Scandinavia, Maggie Elliott of New London, Makya Schroeder of Clintonville and Victoria Zahn of Manawa.

Piotter will be officially crowned on Thursday, Aug. 23, during the Waupaca County Fair.

She follows 2017 Waupaca County Fairest of the Fair Sydney Brooks.

“It has been incredible serving as Waupaca County’s 2017 Fairest of the Fair,” Brooks said. “Over the course of my year I have had the opportunity to grow in confidence, public speaking and interviewing skills which has established a solid building block for my future. The people, the experiences and, of course, the memories will be cherished forever from my year as Fairest.”

During the past year Brooks attended numerous events including the Wisconsin Association of Fairs Convention in January where she competed for the Wisconsin Fairest of Fairs, the official ambassador of the Wisconsin State Fair, where she made it to the top 10.

For 144 years, the Waupaca County Fair has been a family-friendly summer event.

This year it will be held Aug. 21-26, at the Waupaca County Fairgrounds in Weyauwega.
