Ferg, Bette C.

Bette C. (Wilcox) Ferg, age 87, of New London, formerly of Manawa and Waupaca passed into the Loving Arms of her Savior on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Appleton.

Bette was born on April 7, 1931 in Royalton Township to the late Harry and Jeanie Wilcox. Bette was united in marriage to Franklin Ferg on May 7, 1949. Together, they operated the Lone Oak Swiss Farm with their prized registered Brown Swiss cattle. Bette’s love of baking and cake decorating led her to open her own bakery called Bette’s Lovin’ Ovens. She made hundreds of wedding cakes, birthday and special occasion cakes as well as dozens of Christmas cookies. She could seldom go anywhere without someone coming up to her and saying, “You baked my wedding cake or made my birthday cake.”

She is survived by her six children whom she cherished: Thomas (Loretta) Ferg of Amherst Junction, Sandy Spierings of Weyauwega, Vicki (Kent) Gehrke of Hortonville, Pam (Kenny) Samson of Weyauwega, Jeanie (Perry) Patri of Manawa, and DeeDee Lowney of Manawa. She was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. She also seemed to attract lots of other children who weren’t related by blood but who were in need of a grandma. She loved each and every one of them dearly. She is also survived by a sister, Linda Ponto and a brother, Glen Wilcox; a sister-in-law, Kathy Wilcox, and three foreign exchange students. Bette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Franklin Ferg; her son-in-law, Tom Lowney; her brothers, Everette, Russell, Roger, Calvin, and Robert Wilcox; and her sisters, Hazel Balthazor, Eva Bork, Dollie Bork, Ethel Dumbleton and Laurene Batten, as well as many other family members and friends.

A Celebration of her life and her new journey into everlasting life will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Manawa on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Roger Nielsen, St. John’s Baldwin Mills officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Little Wolf Cemetery, Town of Little Wolf.

We know that Bette loved flowers and plants but her compassion for others and love of all children moved her to request that any memorials go to: St. John’s Lutheran Church of Baldwin Mills; Fox Valley Children’s Hospital, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
