Penney, John F. “Jack”

John F. Penney “Jack”, age 86 of the Town of Lind, died August 20, 2018 from injuries sustained in pedestrian/car accident.

John was born in Waupaca, WI on November 15, 1931, the only son of Claude and Harriet (Slater) Penney. He attended schools in Waupaca and graduated in the class of 1950. Active in sports, he performed in All-Conference football and basketball. After graduation, he began a law enforcement career, retiring after 35 years of service as Captain with the Waupaca Co. Sheriff’s Dept. John was a member of the “32nd Red Arrow Division” that was called into active duty in 1961 during the “Berlin Crisis”. He later joined the Army Reserve and completed a 30-year military career as a member of Detachment I, 44th General Hospital, Menasha, WI. John married Shelley Harris and they later divorced. In 1990, he was elected to the Waupaca Co. Board of Supervisors representing Township of Lind. He remained on the board for over 28 years until his passing. John was an avid follower of all sports at every level of competition. As an outdoorsman, Spring Turkey hunting was his favorite. He was a member of the Crystal Lake United Methodist Church, Legion Post 161, King, WI, and the 32nd Division Old Timers Club.

Survivors include his three boys: Lance (Kim) Penney, Troy Penney, Boyd (Nicole) Penney; grandchildren: Vaughan Penney, Jordyn Penney, and Amber (fiancé, Jake Wanty) Timm. He is further survived by his sister, Jo Ann Wetherbee; brother-in-law, Gene Sorenson; his special friend, Nancy Carbiener and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Donna Sorenson; a brother-in-law, Clyde Wetherbee; and his ex-wife, Shelley Penney.

The funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at the A.J. Holly & Sons Funeral Home in Waupaca with Pastor Jeffrey Fletcher officiating. Burial will be at Lind Center Cemetery, Waupaca. A visitation for John will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m; with service starting at 3 p.m. The A.J. Holly & Sons Funeral Home in Waupaca is serving the family.
