Waupaca residents – invite your out of town friends and relatives to come visit you during the first weekend of October. And, all you non-resident folks: hit up your Waupaca friends for a visit.
Leaf and Art peeping go hand in hand Oct. 1-3 during Hidden Studios: Art along the Ice Age Trail, where the beauty of nature pairs with the most creative in human expression. Seven working art studios are open and will show the work of twenty area artists. This is the seventh year that Hidden Studios has presented this spectacular event; and, along with founding artists, four artists new to this event will be highlighted as well. You can pick up fliers for Hidden Studios at the Waupaca Community Arts Center and at Cronies, Embellishments, Originals etc, and other sponsors of the event.
Full information and plentiful images of the works you can see during this weekend are available online at www.hiddenstudiosarttour.com.
This event is wonderful to look forward to each year, because it gives the public an opportunity to see the work of established artists in a wide variety of media - and the people who create it - “up close and personal.”
You can find artists who create oil paintings, jewelry, photography, watercolors, sculpture, blown glass, leather accessories, raku ceramics, fiber art, sculptural lighting, pastels, baskets, furniture, and Iroquois raised beadwork.
The map for the event is like a pirate treasure map: you chart your own course to see what you want to see. I have traversed this map several times over the past few years, and yes, it takes more than one day to really see them all. While it is fun to greet artists whose work you admire, it is also fun to see how each artist evolves and grows in vision and technique from year to year. And let’s not forget the culinary artists whose work can be experienced at any one of the restaurants located in the Waupaca, Amherst, Iola and Scandinavia area.
So, Waupaca is the place to be Oct. 1-3, whether you live here, can visit people you know, or want to stay in one of Waupaca’s intriguing bed-and-breakfast locations or a comfortable motel. This little city has big relaxation to offer – tempered with just the right degree of artistic atmosphere. And it’s all easy to find on the map you can download from www.hiddenstudiosarttour.com or get in the flier.
