Green flag drops on 2012 race season

After a tough beginning to the local racing season last year, the 2012 race season was able to start on schedule when Seymour Speedway got its Spring Thaw in the books on Sunday. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, but because of the rain Friday night, was postponed until Sunday.

Even with the postponement, the start of the race day was delayed due to the extra time it took to get the track into racing condition. Despite that, there was a good-sized crowd on hand. That’s what makes die-hard local race fans unique.

Shawano Speedway ready to open its gates for another season of racing

It’s that time of year again, when there is a rumble of engines in the air and the dirt flies. Yes, the 2012 race season is about to begin.

Alright, the season has already officially started as two dirt tracks in northeast Wisconsin have already hosted races this year. A third area track will be added to that list Saturday, April 21, when Shawano Speedway opens its gates.

Cold weather can’t keep racers, fans away from Shawano Speedway

Once again there was a rumble in the air, the ground shook, and the dirt flew at Shawano Speedway as the Speedway opened its race season Saturday night.

Even though the weather was cool, and got downright cold by the end of the racing program, the die-hard fans were out in force. There were 98 race cars on hand for the opener, which was four more than last year’s opener. There were 16 WISSOTA Late Models, 24 IMCA Modifieds, 24 IMCA Stock Cars, 11 FASTRAK Late Models and 23 IMCA Northern SportMods on hand.
