Which late models drivers will be at Shawano Speedway for the WoO show Aug. 4?

The highly anticipated World of Outlaws Late Model Series race at Shawano Speedway is less than a week away. The big question is: Which drivers will show up for the race? Unfortunately, the realistic answer is, you'll have to wait until Wednesday to find out.

You can count on most, if not all of the World of Outlaws regulars to be there. Other than those drivers it's pure speculation as to who will be there. Several drivers have the race listed on their schedule on their web site, but as we all know, plans can changed due to unexpected things.

For example, earlier this week, Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., added the WoO race at Shawano Speedway to his schedule. But a few days later he removed the race from his schedule. I received an email from Babb's race team stating that they were planning on racing at Shawano Speedway, but some unexpected things came up. If they get those things finished before the race in Shawano, then he will be there. If they don't get those things done before the Shawano race, he won't be in Shawano.

One thing to remember is if a driver isn't a WoO regular, their main objective is to prepare for the $40,000 to win USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway Aug. 6-7. Shawano Speedway did the right thing to schedule this race leading up to the USA Nationals in an attempt to try to get more late models to show up. But one of the negatives of planning a race leading up to a high-paying event is the fact the main focus for some of the drivers is the higher-paying event.

I don't know exactly which drivers will show up, but the ones that do will be some of the best late model drivers in the country. And they will be in our own backyard. Add to that the $2,000 to win IMCA Modified portion of the program, and the night of racing as the potential to be a huge night of racing.

See you at the track.
