CEA, administration reach agreement

Sept. 2, 2010 | 0 comments

The Clintonville Public School District has reached a four-year (2009-11 and 2011-13) contract settlement with the Clintonville Education Association.

CEA Chief Negotiator Kevin Godfrey and Superintendent Tom O'Toole issued a joint press release Monday, Aug. 30.

Though it still faces revenue caps imposed by the state, the district was able to set aside enough money in the budget to reach this settlement.

The teachers' association felt that the district made a good faith effort to have a quality economic settlement. The district was able to provide a 4.2 percent total package each year for the 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 contract years and will negotiate wages only for the 2012-13 contract year. Some teachers receive a built-in experience step as an additional wage increase. Some teachers will also receive a salary schedule lane change due to the accumulation of additional college/university credits for an additional wage increase.

The Board was able to provide this settlement in part due to an increased work load at the secondary level for some teachers which could allow for future savings through staff reductions.

Calendars for both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic school years had basically been agreed upon quite some time ago. This also reflects the positive manner in which this contract was settled.

The CEA, administration, and the Board of Education look forward to maintaining positive relations as the district moves forward to best serve student and community needs. The Board of Education and CEA voted unanimously for these contracts.
