Manawa begins assessment appeal process
The resolution will begin the process to appeal the assessment value with the State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
Council President Bob Lieberman asked the city to relocate the "Welcome to Manawa" sign on the south side. He also requested the city design a brochure with Manawa assets to distribute to New North and other developers.
The council was informed that the city has been awarded a Wisconsin Department of Transportation grant for a speed board.
Fire Chief Mark Levezow reported that the Manawa Ambulance Service has been upgraded to "I" status, which will cut down on intercepts. Training classes will start this fall. The Manawa Rural Fire Department is considering white water rescue training to form a dive team.
In other business, the council approved a five-year well permit for the School District of Manawa.
Alderman Mike Frazier reported that the Manawa Area Chamber of Commerce liked the idea of a Christmas yard contest. The chamber asked about the smoking ban and expressed concerns about butts on the sidewalks on South Bridge Street in the business district.
Frazier asked what happened to the cross walk signs and inquired about what the Trick or Treat hours will be.
A Committee of the Whole meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, to discuss prioritizing community projects and the 2011 budget. Police Chief David Walker asked that the part-time officer position also be put on the meeting's agenda.
The council was informed that the Waupaca County Highway Department will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Helvetia site.
