Rasmussen runs as write-in
Scott Rasmussen is running as a write-in candidate in the city’s 3rd Ward. "I was asked if I would be interested in that opportunity. I inquired about it first, because I had heard that no one had stepped up to run in the 3rd Ward, and then I talked to the mayor. He asked if I would consider," Rasmussen said. In Weyauwega’s 3rd Ward, no one took out or filed nomination papers to be a candidate in that ward before the 5 p.m. filing deadline on Jan. 3. As a result, voters in that ward will have to write in a name when they vote on Tuesday, April 3. Rasmussen plans to let the voters in the 3rd Ward know that he is running as a write-in candidate by going door to door this weekend. In addition, he will be asking some residents for their permission to place yard signs on their property. In February, he filed the necessary paperwork to become an official write-in candidate. A native of Clintonville, Rasmussen has lived in the Weyauwega area for about 20 years, including approximately the past nine years in the city. He is the purchasing manager at World Class Manufacturing Group in Weyauwega. He has been working there almost 10 years. Rasmussen served on the city’s police task force committee and has two children – daughter Jordyn, who is a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and son Cole, who is a student at Fox Valley Technical College. "I’ve really had the benefit of raising my children in the safe environment of Weyauwega," he said. "It’s the opportunity for me to pay back all the benefits my kids and I reaped by being in the community." Rasmussen’s goal as a member of the Common Council would be to make decisions that are based on the betterment of the community. There are also two other seats up for election in the spring election. In the city’s 1st Ward, Bruce Brunner is running for alderman, and in the 2nd Ward, Donna Allenstein is running for a seat on the council. Allenstein previously served on the Common Council. She served on the council for a total of 10 years up until 2009. Incumbent Chuck Gerlach is not seeking re-election in that ward; Allenstein is running unopposed. Brunner will also be unopposed in the spring election. He was appointed to the council to fill the vacant 1st Ward seat, up until the April 3 election. The seat was vacant after Jack Spierings resigned last November after moving into the 2nd Ward.
