Student suspended for bringing gun to school
A Waupaca High School student faces expulsion for allegedly bringing a handgun to school Tuesday.
At 3:30 p.m., a student told high school administrators that a female student had a gun in her handbag while she was at school.
By the time the gun was reported, the student had left school.
District Administrator Dave Poeschl said police were notified and they went to the girl’s home to investigate the report. They found a .40-caliber handgun that matched the description given to administrators.
"We believe the weapon was on school grounds, even though we didn’t see it," Poeschl said, noting that the student who reported the gun provided a detailed description that matched the .40-caliber handgun that police found at the girl’s home.
"At no time was there any indication the student was intending to use the handgun," Poeschl said. "Nor is there any evidence the handgun was displayed outside of the student’s handbag."
The student has been suspended pending an expulsion hearing before the Waupaca School Board.
"The district’s best defense against dangerous behaviors is fellow students being vigilant and reporting all potentially dangerous situations," Poeschl said. "It was a student who reported this incident to authorities and we need to recognize his decision to do the right thing."
The student who reported seeing the gun will be eligible for the Quick $50 reward offered by Waupaca County Crimestoppers.

In the article, nobody was convicted, justly or unjustly.
(And, around here, a police scanner would be a bigger waste of money than opera glasses.)

I'm really curious to hear what all the people who jumped to her defense have to say now!!!! The gun was LOADED!!! What about if it had even accidentally go off??? How about getting a lot more of the story before simply dismissing a potentially life threatening situation!!!

She admitted to bringing the gun....and admitted to why she brought it. As for the concealed weapon there are signs all over that say not guns alowed. So she would not have been smile at!interresting....if my kid was in that school i would be flying off the handle. The girl knows right from wrong. It was stupid and wrong no matter what the reason to bring a gun to school with the intent to scare other students....if they are harrassing her that bad then she should have gone to a teacher and let them handle it if the school system doesnt take care of the situation then the parents should sue. Really? She knew better and should be punished correctly!!!

NYK are you kidding me???? Before you get anything close to the whole story you are calling for them to just let it go??? What if your kid went to that school???? What if something actually DID happen??? Would you still want this kid to just be left alone??[/u]
now that i know she admitted to it... they can feel free to expel her. i never thought they should let it slide just to be nice. i said it because, as far as i had heard, they had no proof. and when you expel people based on hearsay... you get sued.
now if her parents had a brain- they would have told her to keep her mouth shut. had she lawyered up before blabbing she wouldnt have a felony coming her way. wait til daddy finds out that he can't have any guns in the house once his daughter is a felon. and she wont be moving out anytime soon because she won't be able to find a decent job.

I wouldn't want to have to live on the extent of what you have "heard". If you think you have been fully informed by reading this so-called newspaper, then you have some rude awakenings in your future.
And, it's hard to take you seriously, when you've never "heard" of a shift key.

Nobody has been expelled.
