Burglary at Waupaca Thrift Store
The Waupaca Thrift Store was hit by a break-in last week. Debbie Lind, the thrift store’s general manager, told police on Thursday, April 20, that $1,083 in cash was stolen. Store employees found the donation door at the the back of the building unlocked when they arrived shortly before 9 a.m. Police found no signs of forced entry and employees said the door had been locked when they closed the store. Inside, they found that the locks on a desk and two filing cabinets had been pried off and cash stolen. No other items in the store were stolen. "They left me with the $11 in change that I had in the till," Lind said. Lind said the store’s insurance policy does not cover the theft of cash and the deductible is too high to cover the $125 cost to replace all the locks. Located at 123 E. fulton St., across from the library, the non-profit store collects donated, used clothing and sells the items at a low cost, "We’re here to help the community, but I don’t know where to go for help for us," Lind said. "One thousand dollars is a lot of money." Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact the Waupaca Police Department at 715-258-4400.
