County to remove illegal signs
The Waupaca County Highway Department reminds residents that it is illegal to place private signs such as rummage sale signs, advertising signs, "for sale" signs or Realtor signs in the county right-of-way. Signs placed in the right-of-way will be removed by the highway department.

I hope that the county doesn't intend to be this broad in their actions. The statute is actually more restrictive in defining an "unauthorized sign".
Signs which are specifically prohibited are:
1) signs that "purport to be, imitate, or resemble" an official traffic sign
2) signs that "attempt to direct the movement of traffic"
3) signs that interfere with official traffic signs
4) advertising attached to an official traffic sign/signal
5) red or amber reflectors (blue are OK)
I hope Waupaca County understands that removing signs that don't violate the statute could be considered a basic violation of the First Amendment, opening them up to a slam-dunk lawsuit.
