July 12, 2012 | 0 comments

Due to the ongoing dry conditions, the Department of Natural Resources has issued emergency burning restrictions for Waupaca County beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 13.

No outdoor burning will be allowed and all burning permits are suspended.

Debris piles, burn barrels, prescribed or broadcast burns are prohibited

All campfires, except for those in metal fire rings in developed camping areas, are prohibited.

Smoking outdoors is prohibited, as is throwing cigarettes, matches, ashes, or any burning material from a vehicle.

Charcoal or propane grills may be used in the immediate vicinity of a residence if placed on concrete or gravel with significant clearance and attended at all times.

Disposing of charcoal briquettes or hot ashes in the outdoors is prohibited.

All fireworks are prohibited.

No campfires will be allowed in the city of Waupaca, according to Waupaca Police Chief Tim Goke.

The DNR currently rates fire hazard conditions in Waupaca County as High. Waushara County has a rating of Very High.

Waupaca County was one of eight counties added today to a group of 11 southwest Wisconsin counties where the burning ban has been in effect since June 29.

The DNR intends to keep the emergency burning restrictions in place until there is a significant amount of rain.
