Jones Family Farm celebrates 150 years

Aug. 9, 2012 | 0 comments

An area farm was recognized at the Wisconsin State Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 7 for the Sesquicentennial & Century Farm and Home Award.

The Jones Family Farm is located on State Highway 22, between Waupaca and Wild Rose.

The history of the farm began with James D. Jones and his wife Jane in 1862 when they bought 160 acres, north of Wild Rose.

In 1937, James O. Jones and his wife Margret Enid took over the farm from his father.

The homestead was passed on to John R. Jones in 1986. John and his wife Elaine still live on the homestead.

He was honored to receive the award at the state fair. His parents received a similar award after 100 years.

The house, with its original foundation, was continuously added on to with each generation of the Jones family.

It is still a gathering place, where the roots and memories of the Jones family begins.

The extended Jones family – more than 120 people from throughout the country – will gather this weekend to celebrate the farm’s sesquicentennial.

The Jones Family Farm is celebrating those 150 years with an open house, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the homestead on State Highway 22.
