Classic film series at library

The Waupaca Area Public Library will host a series of four classic films at 1:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month beginning Sept. 6.

Screened in the library’s lower level meeting room, the films are free and open to the public. Free popcorn and refreshments are also available.

Each film will be preceded with a brief discussion by Dr. Jack Rhodes, who will share insights about the making of the movie, its director and stars, and how it was received by critics and audiences at the time of its release.

"Each film is pegged in some way to a specific feature of the calendar year. Thus, the first film deals with what most people regard as the worst commercial maritime disaster in British history, an event which occurred a full century ago in 1912," Rhodes said, explaining how he chose the four films for this fall’s screenings.

"Our October feature ties in with the ‘Food for Thought’ theme of the library’s October Book Fest. Our third picture, coming as it does at the very beginning of November, pays tribute to area veterans, especially those who served in the Pacific in World War II. And our December feature is a richly animated treat suitable for families at the holidays," Rhodes said.

Due to the library’s licensing agreement, the films’ titles cannot be advertised outside of the library. For more information about the schedule of films, visit the library or call 715-258-4414.
