Winchester Academy examines adult vaccinations

Oct. 8, 2012 | 0 comments

Dr. Elizabeth De Stasio will discuss adult vaccinations at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Waupaca Area Public Library.

The first in a Winchester Academy two-part series on health care, the presentation is free and open to the public.

De Stasio will describe types of vaccinations that are relatively new and primarily for adults. Some questions she will answer include: How do vaccines work? What are they made of? What are the benefits and risks of adult vaccines?

Currently a professor and chair of the biology department at Lawrence university, De Stasio received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Lawrence University and her doctorate in molecular and cell biology from Brown University, with post-doctoral work in genetics. She was a Fulbright scholar at Karolinska Institute in Sweden and has co-authored many articles in professional journals.

The Oct. 15 program is sponsored by Bernard Beaman in memory of his wife Barbara.
