50th Anniversary - Schimke
Wilmer and Kasimira (Kathi) Schimke were married Nov. 15, 1961 in Bucy Le Long, France. Wilmer is a native of New London.
Wilmer worked in peacetime as an aircraft support equipment mechanic in the Air Force for three years, and in the Navy for 37 years. Upon his retirement, he was presented a naval citation for 40 years of service to the United States, including his outstanding innovative ideas, dedication and overall service. The citation was awarded to him by the commander at the Naval Aviation Depot in Jacksonville, Florida. Kathi also received a citation for her dedication to her husband over the 40 years he worked for the Air Force and Navy.
The couple lived in Florida for 33 years, relocating to New London in 1999, where Wilmer has family. The Schimke's have two daughters - one in California and one in New Jersey.
