Young musicians share their music
CLINTONVILLE - A group of 25 third and fourth graders from Rexford-Longfellow Elementary entertained residents of Angelus Retirement Center, Sun Valley, Pine Manor and Green Tree Nursing Home by playing their recorders on Friday, June 4. A recorder is a clarinet like instrument which is used in third and fourth grades to teach students to read music.
"All of these students had finished their recorder units in music class and they were motivated to learn more," said their teacher, Lynne Kessler. She asked them to learn some new songs and they did so quickly that she arranged to have them refine their performance skills. "These students gave up their own time to practice. They met before school every day and also gave up their lunch recess twice a week so they could practice together. They were very dedicated musicians," explained Mrs. Kessler.
The following students were involved in the recorder group: Tabitha Breitrick, Daniel Torrez, Allison Graper, Brooklyn Thebo, Stephanie Mueller, Chelsey Birling, Sierra Hunstable, Sam Wittman, Emily Krause, Brooke Wespetal, Allysin Booth, Shay Schultz, Sheyenne Martin, Shianne Davis, Joshua Jacobsen, Emmalee Pockat, Sami Smejkal, Makenna Brown, Alexa Berndt, Xander Huber, Makayla Coddington, Kiara Paulson, Madi Lamia and Ashley McRann.
