Iola Historical Village open Saturdays
IOLA - The Iola Historical Village and museum will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. every Saturday through Sept. 25.
It is located on Depot Street two blocks west of Main Street in Iola.
Current features at the museum are: 150 Years of Skiing, with history and photos of the Iola Winter Sports Club; 100 Years of Boy Scouts; and 150th anniversary of the Iola Mill.
The historic buildings include: 1894 Iola & Northern Railroad original depot and vintage caboose; 19th Century restored log cabin; old Helvetia Town Hall, 1919, served town of Helvetia for 75 years. The complex also includes two reproduction buildings: 1901 Iola Firehouse, with vintage fire engines; 20th Century one-room schoolhouse.
Admission to the Iola Historical Village is free, but donations are appreciated.
Special group and individual tours of the historical village may be arranged by calling the Iola Historical Society at 715-445-IOLA (4652).
The Iola Historical Society's 26th Annual Strawberry Festival and Whatzit Appraisal Fair will be held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at the Iola Historical Village. The menu includes $3 strawberry shortcake, $3 barbecues, $2 hotdogs, and $1 for ice cream or refreshments. Antique and collectible experts will offer appraisals at $2 donation per item, or $5 for three items.
