The Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners are hard at work to improve the quality of life for the people of Nicaragua, and the culture and talent of Nicaragua were on display Wednesday, June 9, as folk dancers performed along with concert opera singer Mario Rocha.
"These performers have been in Wisconsin through donations and grants acquired by the Wisconsin/Nicaraga Partners," explained event organizer Mike McCord. "We scheduled Mario Rocha, who is a good friend of ours and a member of Clintonville's partner city of Boaco, Nicaragua. He is a professional opera singer and pianist.
"The group of six dancers from the village of Ser Del Ray are part of a group of 19 dancers that have entertained audiences across Nicaragua, Europe, and America," McCord stated. "They put on performances in Stevens Point and Madison while visiting Wisconsin in efforts to raise money for the Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners. They also performed in the Capitol Rotunda in Madison and at Madison's Lakefront Festiva."
McCord said those who attended the show in Clintonville enjoyed the cultural music and a chance to meet new people. Translator Moises Guellen said the group was excited to make new acquaintances and will take many memories back to their homes in Monagua, Nicaragua.
"This has all been part of a fundraising effort through friends and members of Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners," concluded McCord. "Everyone has been very supportive and generous in their support of Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners, and we appreciate everyone for being there."
