IOLA - Mike Jacquart has been named Lion of the Year by the Iola Lions Club. He was chosen for his dedicated service to the Lions and for his great job as secretary for many years.
Jerry Harvancik received the Melvin Jones Award for his years of service to the Lions and the community.
The awards were presented June 7 at the Iola Lions Honors Night.
The Iola Lions also selected officers and directors for the 2010-11 year. New officers include President Dale Bestul, Past President Joe Price, First Vice President Scott Bestul, Second Vice President Ralph Bostwick, Third Vice President Mark Sether, Secretary Mike Mazemke, Co-treasurers Dan Tap and Dave Zilz, Lion Tamers Tom Creech and Charlie Nordness, Tail Twisters Jerry Harvancik and Jack Kuhr. Directors are Greg Loeser, Cliff Mishler, Greg Carrick and Mike Jacquart; membership committee chairman is Dan Tap.
Some of the projects for the coming year will include community work nights, a food drive in November and support for the Wisconsin Lions Camp for children with visual and other handicaps, and Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin.
The club meets at 6:30 p.m. at Glacier Woods on the first and third Monday of the month. New members are welcome and can contact the club via e-mail at iolalions@hotmail.com or by visiting the website at www.iolalionism.org.
