The Skate Park on 12th Street was dedicated to Gordon Noren Tuesday, June 29.
Noren cared about the youth of the community and wanted a safe environment for them to hang out with friends and show off their skateboarding abilities.
Noren moved to Clintonville from Minnesota to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. He saw that children were riding their skateboards all over town in public places and in front of businesses without much guidance or support. Because of this concern, he created a skateboarding area in his garage for kids to keep them off of the streets and out of danger.
The City of Clintonville raised the concern of personal responsibility with the skateboarding facility in his garage and in the wintertime the equipment he built for them was moved with the help of the Lions Club to a barn for the winter.
After two years the City relented and donated space for the skate park to become a reality and have a permanent home.
Noren designed and built all the equipment first out of wood, then switching to steel, with the continued support and help of the local Lions Club organization.
Mayor Judith Magee announced her pleasure in dedicating the park to Gordon Noren. "You didn't quit," she said. "Thank you for believing in all the kids."
