Bus purchase approved for I-S School District
"We have been purchasing used buses from this company for the past few years and we've had good luck with them," stated Transportation Committee Chairman Randy Frye. He indicated a new vehicle would cost over $100,000.
The used bus has logged over 80,000 miles.
For 2011-12, the Transportation Committee plans to recommend replacing the special education vehicle that has over 148,000 miles. "It's not a bus, so we'll save a little money there," Frye stated.
The board also approved a 2010-12 contract with the I-S Auxiliary Association. According to District Administrator Joe Price, the new contract includes the following:
•Raise of 25 cents per hour.
•Increase from one to two personal days per year.
•Health and dental remain the same for 2010-11, with an increase of 5 percent in 2011-12.
•Total package increase of 2 percent for 2010-11 and 2.5 percent for 2011-12.
In other business, the board accepted the resignation of middle and high school English teacher Ryan Lokken, who has taken a teaching position near Racine.
"It's where he wants to be in his personal life," Price explained.
The board approved a teaching contract for Tamela McCartney to replace Lokken. Price indicated that McCartney had taught at I-S about four years ago, but left to start a family.
Contracts were approved for Patricia Nye, cross country; and Ila Sanders, Gifted and Talented coordinator; and Janine Beauchaine, of Young Impressions, after-school care.
