First responder group discussed at Ambulance Commission meeting
The CAAS provides a Paramedic level of care to the residents of the City of Clintonville and ten other surrounding municipalities. The CAAS is located in the City of Clintonville, at 16 N. Main and responds within three minutes of receiving a request for response. The ambulance service has four Critical Care Paramedics and is presently promoting that level of care. The EMTs that are a part of the CAAS do first respond to calls in the City of Clintonville, as needed. If additional help is needed additional resources are requested by responding ambulance personnel. The appropriate number of EMTs will respond. Usually only one EMT is needed. In case of a major event area first responders are requested and paged by the Waupaca County Dispatch Center. There are those EMTs and First Responders who live in close proximity to the City of Clintonville. This system is well organized and suits the needs of the community and has worked well for both the ambulance service and the City of Clintonville. The Clintonville Police Department as well as Clintonville Fire Department have assisted the ambulance service in situations when the resources of CAAS were taxed to the limit. Director Carol Kersten and EMT representative Andrew Werth expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation for the assistance and good working relationship they have with both departments.
However, Director Kersten and the Clintonville Area Ambulance Service Commission members stated that if the City of Clintonville desires First Responders in addition to CAAS EMTs the Clintonville Area Ambulance Service would be willing to establish such a group under the jurisdiction of the ambulance service.
Mayor Judy Magee stated "neither I nor the ambulance representative from the City of Clintonville, Mike Hankins, sees the need for an independent first responder group in the City of Clintonville. The system in place appears to be working very well."
