Petition seeks removal of Clintonville administrator
A petition to remove the Clintonville city administrator position was submitted to city officials on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The Common Council was notified of the petition and has set a special council meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Community Center, to discuss the petition.
Clintonville resident John Moericke circulated the petition, stating that it took about a week and a half to gather the required number of signatures.
"There were so many polite people; there's just no way to describe it," he said. "I want to thank everyone who signed my petition."
The petition needed to have signatures from 15 percent of the people who voted in the most recent gubernatorial election, which took place in November 2010. More than 1,300 voters cast ballots in that election, requiring 196 signatures to validate the petition.
Moericke claimed he encountered four people who refused to sign the petition and seven who said they couldn't sign it but were behind him 100 percent.
"The biggest reason why I started this petition is the amount of salary these people are getting," Moericke said. "The population is going down. The poverty rate is going up. In talking to people, we all felt we need to cut payroll. The state did it, the federal government did it, and everyone else did it except Clintonville. We've got to start at the top and go to the bottom.
"There are too many houses that are empty or in foreclosure. It seems like we just take one step forward and two steps back," Moericke continued. "After a city goes below 5,000 in population, you don't need a city administrator anymore."
The petition will be discussed at a special council meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Community Center.

How many million$ might have been saved over the past 10-15 years had we not gone down the path of Online Waupcaca, TIF's, $700,000. stairways to minimal park space, failure to manage department heads and...?
How about a city management system that must regularly answer directly to the voters rather than a cozy relationship with our council and mayor?
No budget problem now!
