Activity Complex fundraising reaches first goal
At the December Manawa School Board meeting a motion was passed which allowed for the creation of a fundraising committee for the purpose of soliciting donations for the proposed Manawa Activity Complex. It was also stipulated that once the fundraising committee had raised 66 percent of the total cost of the project, the complex would be constructed.
With a deadline of Feb. 1 to start the construction process if the complex were to be completed in time for the Manawa Wolves football season in the fall, the committee had a huge task ahead of them in a short amount of time. Only a month and a half later, the fundraising committee consisting of Chairperson Michelle Kaczorowski, Mary Griffin, Brenda Krenke, Troy Wiesner and Jeff Bortle, has reached its first goal.
As of Feb. 3, the fundraising committee has raised around $247,000, which meets the 66 percent of the total cost of the project required by the school board.
The members of the fundraising committee stressed that the fundraising is not over. They stated they have the goal of collecting enough donations to cover the entire cost of the project, and once that goal is achieved, they will continue to raise funds with a goal of collecting enough money to update the track behind the high school.
The proposed track improvement would increase the track to eight asphalt lanes, and would cost $150,000.
