Artist Jessie Fritsch to speak
Jessie Fritsch, from the Steven's Point area, will demonstrate the ancient art of encaustic painting at a presentation open to the public Monday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the New London Family Medical Center cafeteria. Hosted by the Wolf River Art League, Fritsch will explain that Encaustic art is a layering of colored beeswax preserving the brilliant pigments while allowing luminosity. She values most the ability to preserve the vitality of the preliminary charcoal sketch in the embedded wax. Jessie considers herself a self taught encaustic painter.
Fritsch started using encaustics seven years ago. She was captivated by the process of heating and cooling the wax and thus capturing and controlling the chaos of the wax. She does a charcoal sketch from her photos taken while travelling in college. Fritsch has exhibited in many fine art shows across Wisconsin, winning over 20 awards since 2006. She is a 2006 graduate of UW-Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Fine Art, cum laude.
Come Monday at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 21, to the New London Family Medical Center Cafeteria, 1405 Mill St., New London, to learn more and see Jessie's individual technique and style. The speech and demo is open to the public and is free. It is the WRAL's mission to bring educational talks in the fine arts to the community.
